Things I Tell My Kids, That I Should Tell Myself

Episode 83 - May 26th, 2022

On the way to and from school my son processes life by talking.

I have no idea where he gets it from.

He tells me things he’s learned, experienced, wondered, and asks me endless amounts of questions.

He treats me like I treat google. Except, he asks the things I know google can not answer.

The nuanced questions about friendships and life that there is no one answer to.

So, we work our way through what has happened or could happen, we even practice kind words and come backs. And almost everyday, as the words of advice come out of my mouth, I think, if only I could practice what I preach.

So here are a few things that have come up recently,

It’s the things I tell my kids that I should tell myself.

Meghan as a Mom

I have two kids who are 20 months apart, 3 and 5 years old at the time of recording. It was a wild ride to get them both here (listen to Ep. 46 – I’m ready to talk about my uterus), but as I have been warned by sooooo many veteran parents, different types of difficult are headed my way with parenting.

As they are off at school and play dates, their needs are more than food, sleep and toilet usage. Now they are facing conflict and big feelings. They have questions about how to be that I still struggle with as an adult.

How do I guide my kids to be wonderful, kind, assertive, strong yet gentle people? How do I do that in a world that leaves me more than a. bit jaded? That’s what I’m trying to figure out and often improvising.
