Beach Cleaning & Climate Activism

Episode 22 Parts 1 & 2

November 5th & 12th, 2020
Part 1: Teenage Climate Activist – Making Waves in Ireland and Beyond

Flossie of Flossie and the Beach Cleaners is here to share what inspired her and where it has taken her.

Youth Activism is a growing culture with future focused values. Teens are helping us question our daily actions and public policy. Challenging our perspectives and encouraging us to make small changes for big global impacts.

Part 2: Mum Behind the beach Cleaners – Parenting an Activist

Harriet Donnelly, who organises Flossie and the Beach Cleaners Charity, is here to talk through parenting an activist. From first inspiration to growing notability, what’s it like to have a child who is trying to change the world.

How can we encourage them?

How do we promote activism in our homes?

How do we enable them to follow passions and make a difference?

Who are they?

“We are an ever-growing group of marine enthusiasts in Ireland and around the world who care deeply about the ocean and its marine life. If we know there is plastic on a beach, we want to clean it!”

How do they do it?

We present workshops in junior schools and corporate companies about plastic pollution and what we can do to change our way of life. Alongside this, we host fun regular beach cleans around Ireland – you never know what treasure you might find.”

What is their Mission?

“The group raises awareness about plastic pollution and the damage it is doing to our marine life and oceans around Ireland and different parts of the world.
